Anime Club is about more than Naruto! In this club you can find out about the latest in anime movies and manga. View websites with club members and participate in anime trivia. Field trips explore Japanese culture and food.
We will meet Thursdays in Room 215, 3:00-4:00.

Buddy Club
The Buddy Club was established to foster understanding, cooperation and support between typical students and special needs students. Additionally, to develop friendships and provide role models for appropriate social skills. Lastly, for all students to be cool!
We will meet monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month during lunch.

Chess Club
The Chess Club provides a quiet environment to play chess. A competition will take place second semester. This club is open to all students.

Christmas Carol Club
We will be reading this Charles Dickens' novella and watching "A Muppet's Christmas Carol". Those students who would like to attend South Coast Repertory's production on Sunday, November 24th at 4:00 should bring Mrs. Cochren a check made payable to South Coast for $26.00.

French Club
The French Club has been established to expand the students’ knowledge and understanding of French Language and Culture. This club is open to all French students.
We plan on meeting one Thursday a month in room 217.

Geography Club
The geography club was established a number of years ago to help encourage interest in geography. All students are welcome. Meetings early in the school year are devoted primarily to help students prepare for the National Geographic Geography Bee that Thurston will conduct sometime in January. Meetings after the Bee will be devoted to having fun with a variety of enrichment activities and movies.
The club meets every Monday at lunch in room 207.

Math Stars
This is for sixth grade students that would like to prepare for an annual math competition. Competition will take place in late second semester. The club will start on December 4th and meet on all non-holiday Tuesdays after school.

The New York/Broadway Club was developed for students that would like to learn more about the Arts in New York. Students will learn what to expect on the annual excursion to New York.

Running Club
The Running Club would like to have students to become better runners. Additionally, to use this club to enhance fitness and athletic skill. We hope to prepare for at least one city sponsored run.
We will begin running on November 26th on Mondays and Fridays from 3:15 to 4:30. All students must have a signed permission form on file with Mrs. Dressler.

Science Club
The Science Club was created to enhance the science program at TMS. Students will have the opportunity to explore science outside of the traditional classroom. Students will be able to participate in science competitions that are determined by Mr. Selin.

Shakespeare Club
I encourage students that are interested to see Mr. Dressler's drama presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream. This performance begins during the third week of November and will be fantastic! We will begin this club in February. Students will receive a "side by side" book which on one side has Old English and on the other text side has a modern English translation. We will listen to an audio drama after reading each Act. Then, we will view the film!

Soroptimist International Laguna Beach Club
The Soroptimist Club will provide awareness, advocacy, and action in community service. Additionally, the young ladies of TMS will become knowledgeable in Economic and Social Development, Education, Health, Human Rights, Status of Women and Girls, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
We plan on meeting the first and last Thursday of each month in room 5101.

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club offers its members the opportunity to learn more about the Hispanic Culture and language through a variety of special programs and activities. These programs and activities include but are not limited to Olvera Street, Medevil Times, Latin American Museum of Art and the famous Riesgo Tournament. This club is open to all Spanish students.

Spelling Club
This is a social and academic club in which students practice for the school spelling bee. We will meet Fridays during lunch beginning November 21st throughout the end of January. Students will meet, compete, and eat! Prizes for our top spellers will be awarded each week. Club fees are $20.00 which covers materials, registration fees, prizes, and 8 lunches. Surf Club
The Surf Club has been established to help TMS students improve surfing skills and to have fun!

Vocabulary Power for SAT
This is an academic and social club which promotes vocabulary study. We meet once each month to compete with vocabulary jeopardy using the tablet computers. Students that are interested should see Mrs. Cochren for a vocabulary book. The vocabulary is at grade 9 level, so it will give students a bit of a challenge! Students are invited to my classroom during ESP to work on the lessons and we will compete at times during ESP and lunch! Those who finish the book and attend regularly will earn a medal to be presented at the Blue and Gold Awards. Club fees are $10.00.
