Irene White, director of special education for the Laguna Beach Unified School District, was named 2018 Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators Region 17. ACSA Region 17 will recognize all award recipients at the Orange County Administrators of the Year Banquet on May 7 in Irvine.

Laguna Beach High School counselor Nichole Rosa has been recognized for her exemplary work as a professional school counselor in the Laguna Beach Unified School District by the College Board's inaugural 2018 Counselor Recognition Program (CRP). The award highlights the work of innovative, results-oriented school counselors.

On December 12, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education took action to approve the Positive Certification of the 2017-2018 First Interim Financial Report and authorized its filing with the County Superintendent of Schools. The report highlights various positive adjustments to the adopted budget for the year.

Disney's The Lion King, Jr. is returning to Thurston Middle School for four performances only, featuring a brand new cast of 8th Grade students! A new greenhouse at TOW will become a place for students to learn first-hand about sustainability concepts and will also provide fresh produce for the Laguna Beach Food Pantry, launching the Giving Garden Food Program. The design includes a solar-powered central air system, an above ground pond, and automatic vents.
